How to Hire a Wedding Band: The Complete Guide for 2026

Updated 19 May 2026

Start Early

The best bands book up fast — often 12–18 months in advance for peak wedding season dates (May–September). As soon as you have a date and venue confirmed, start researching entertainment. Don't leave it until 6 months before your wedding and expect to have your first choice available.

Watch Live Videos — Not Just Showreels

Showreels are edited highlights. Ask to see full live performance clips, ideally from a real wedding rather than a rehearsal space. This gives you a much more accurate picture of what the band sounds like in a live environment with real crowds, real acoustics and real energy.

Ask About What's Included

Make sure you understand exactly what's included in the quote. Key questions: How many sets do they play? Is a DJ/disco included between sets? Do they provide their own PA system and lighting? What are the setup and finish times? Is travel included, or charged separately for destination events?

Book Direct — Avoid Agency Fees

Booking through an agency typically adds a 20–30% commission on top of the band's fee. That's money that doesn't go to the musicians and doesn't improve your experience. Booking direct means you deal with the actual artists, get a personal relationship, and often get better value for the same quality.

Check PAT Testing & PLI

Any professional band performing at a licensed venue should have current PAT testing on their electrical equipment and Public Liability Insurance (PLI). Most venues require proof of PLI. Always ask for this documentation before signing a contract.

"We're happy to answer any questions before you book. No hard sell — just honest advice from musicians who love what they do."
